We are pleased to report that the proposal to build 147 homes on the former Prickett Nursery property has been withdrawn. This means that there will be NO public hearing this coming Tuesday as previously announced.
What happens next? The Mantua Township government wants to enroll the property in a farmland preservation program. Just like the Tall Pines preservation effort, this process will require cooperation between government entities and the landowner. While it may take time, it is a worthwhile effort. In the end, the land will hopefully retain many of the natural attributes, while avoiding the perils of densely-packed housing.
The Friends group thanks everyone who spread the word about the housing proposal. The publicity even attracted the attention of KYW Newsradio last Sunday. We pledge to keep the public informed about the status of this property as negotiations continue.
